who is behind all this?
I take pictures to capture the moment of the environment and experience around me, creating memories. I write to also communicate emotions and memories. Some of these experiences will be documented on this website.
Growing up, I wanted to be a photojournalist for National Geographic. I studied journalism and took pictures. Not being able to get into Northwestern was very disappointing. Instead, I went to the University of St. Thomas majoring in International Communications. It was tough. My father suggested I take time off between school to work and find myself. I wish I did because I wasn’t ready for college, even though I had this dream to travel and take pictures of beautiful people for a global magazine.
My life path changed, I dropped out of college and took film classes at the local college, and worked in an art space and coffee house. I then moved to NY shortly after getting my degree in Visual Communications. I communicate and process information visually, so the program appealed to me. In NY, I lived for 15 years and I got a job as the right hand to the CEO of Newsweek, where I worked for five years.
The steady income allowed me to explore my creativity again, when I started my own art mag Creative Sugar (creativesugarmagazine.net). We were about 20-25 stylists, editors, and journalists who contributed on the art scene in NY and from all over. It was a ton of fun.
I got into video around this time as well, doing shorts on local artists, which I want to pursue ongoing. The idea is to support emerging art and artists that I admire.
I then decided to go back to school for marketing and earned my MS in Marketing. Learning what I did trying to get Creative Sugar off the ground sparked interest in how the advertising and marketing world works. I decided I am purely interested in the promotional side, designing ads, creating content for the web.
I honed my skills a bit over the years, and my partner and I relocated back to Houston for the better cost of living. It is here I plan to make more short films, photograph, build websites, travel, and do marketing to promote these projects.
Thanks for taking the time in learning a bit more about me, I hope we can collaborate!
